Be a River Explorer
Park
River Assessment Program
Come join us as we explore the streams and rivers in your neighborhood. Look for aquatic insects to determine water quality. Conduct stream surveys to assess habitat in and along the streams.
A training workshop will be held in two parts. Stream Survey training will occur on Saturday, June 21, 2008. Explorers will have the summer to complete the survey. Water Quality Assessment training will take place on Saturday, September 20, 2008. All participants must register for both sessions. Volunteers must be at least 8 years of age. Anyone under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
River Explorers are needed in Hartford, New Britain, and West Hartford. We will be assessing streams in the Park River Watershed, including the North and South Branches of the Park River, Trout Brook, Bass Brook, Piper Brook, and the smaller, year-round streams that feed into these. This program, supported by an EPA Healthy Communities grant is a collaboration with The Children’s Museum, Park River Watershed Revitalization Initiative and Farmington River Watershed Association.
